VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK OF KENTUCKY

IN HONOR OF OUR VETERANS

“American soldiers in battle don’t fight for what some president says on T.V., they don’t fight for mom, apple pie, the American flag . . . they fight for one another.” LTG Hal Moore

Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky, a 33,000+ square foot dedicated area, will lie adjacent Veterans Memorial Parkway, a named segment of KY 329 in Crestwood, Kentucky. The Park will be next to next to the main entrance of South Oldham Middle and South Oldham High Schools. Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky is the result of action by Oldham County Board of Education enabling establishment of the Park in that location.  Fundraising is currently underway for the project

Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky will unveil markers each year that will serve to remind us of our veterans, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve our American freedoms.

The two types of markers will:

> Provide historical information about wars/campaigns/military actions where Americans fought and died                                                                                                                                                          > Include quotes appropriate to the purposes of the Park

Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky is designed to foster reflection, education and inspiration, especially to the youth. A sidewalk will lead visitors past plantings, benches and trees enhancing the markers.  There will be year inserts in each section of the sidewalk.  When totally complete, there will be "300 Years of Military History", covering America's military history of 1776-2076.  What will be significant about the sidewalk is that, if an American died in a military action during that year, the section of the sidewalk will be colored.  Thus, one will only need to look down to see if someone paid the ultimate sacrifice during that period.

Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky will be unique when compared to most parks dedicated to veterans found in the United States. Meant to be interactive and functional as a community gathering place, Veterans Memorial Park of Kentucky will be an educational and living reminder of those veterans who served and those who sacrificed for our American freedoms to youth, community members, visitors and all who will visit it.

Please notify the Board Chair below if you or your organization would like to receive a presentation on or more information about the project.
